South African BPO industry body and trade association BPESA announced last week that Zain Patel will take over as Chairperson of its National Board. An experienced executive, Patel replaces Evan Jones, who has served as National Board Chairperson for nearly four years.
BPESA has played a central role in expanding South Africa’s global business services sector, enabling the country to successfully position itself as an emerging offshoring destination for the BPO industry. South Africa reached the number one spot as the most preferred Global BPO Offshore Destination in the world, according to research conducted by Ryan Strategic Advisory. South Africa is expected to account for 4% of global BPO revenues by 2030.
South Africa has become Africa’s largest GBS player by market share, employing over 261,082 service workers with competencies across most outsourcing services, including digitally enabled contact centers and customer experience lifecycle management services. According to BPESA, GBS companies have contributed an estimated $1.3 billion USD to the economy in export revenue and added 50,703 new jobs to the economy of which 87,7% are youth jobs.
