Audio-Technica debuts ATV-SG1 and ATV-SG1LE

New audio tools target the growing global content creator market.

The specialized audio manufacturer Audio-Technica (TYO: 6810) has introduced two new on-camera shotgun microphones, the ATV-SG1 and the ATV-SG1LE, designed for use with DSLR and mirrorless cameras. These units are engineered to address the technical requirements of professional videographers and digital content creators by providing directional audio capture in a compact form factor.

The flagship ATV-SG1 features a 100 mm acoustic tube and a 14 mm large-diameter diaphragm, designed to provide high sensitivity and low noise levels. The microphone includes a matrix switch allowing for dual-channel flexibility. Users can select between duplicate channels, a primary track paired with a -6 dB safety track to prevent clipping, or a primary microphone track combined with an external wireless lavalier feed. This model also integrates a headphone jack for real-time monitoring and a rechargeable battery providing up to 24 hours of operation.

“The ATV-SG1 provides professional-quality sound for lifelike reproduction of the human voice and other sources, utilizing a newly designed 14 mm diaphragm for detailed audio,” stated a company representative during the product debut.

For more streamlined operations, the ATV-SG1LE operates on plug-in power while maintaining an extended dynamic range and high maximum sound pressure level (SPL). Measuring 130 mm in length and 35 mm in width, the unit utilizes the same 100 mm acoustic tube as the flagship model but lacks the internal battery and safety track switching capabilities. Both models feature integrated shock mounts to reduce handling noise and utilize patented radio frequency (RF) noise-immunity technology to mitigate interference from nearby electronic devices.

Both microphones utilize a 12-sided shoe mounting plate, which allows the microphone to be rotated in 30-degree increments. This adjustment accommodates off-center sound sources or prevents the microphone from entering the camera’s frame when using wide-angle lenses. The ATV-SG1 is priced at $249.00 USD, while the ATV-SG1LE is available for $119.00 USD.

Headquartered in Japan, Audio-Technica has produced broadcast and consumer audio equipment for over 60 years. These new entries represent the company’s latest effort to capture market share in the professional video accessory segment, where demand for high-fidelity audio integration is increasing alongside the rise of independent media production.
