French outsourcing and services provider Capgemini has signed a deal with the U.K. government to develop a robotic process automation (RPA) center of excellence to support the nation’s digital transformation efforts.
The goal of the center of excellence, which was approved through a contract with the U.K. Cabinet Office, will be to generally “accelerate the take-up of RPA” across the central government, according to the Paris-based company.
The initiative will begin by looking for various clerical processes that are ripe for automation. Capgemini will also use its tech tools to look for other areas that require ongoing repetitive tasks currently done by workers. Certain target areas will be request verifications for services, grants, or benefits, said the firm in a statement.
“RPA is an excellent opportunity for public sector organizations to realize significant productivity gains and focus on more value-added services,” said Christine Hodgson, chairman for Capgemini UK. “Based on our U.K. public sector and global RPA experience, we are confident that the center of excellence will have a key role in supporting the public service transformation.”
