Breaking News: Cognizant Infected By Maze Ransomware

Global outsourcing firm Cognizant has succumbed to the “Maze” ransomware, Cognitive Business has learned. The ransomware infects and encrypts networked computers inside the victim enterprise, transmits the encrypted data to the controlling data kidnappers, who then hold such data hostage pending payment by the victim company.

Should the company or private victim decline to pay, the criminals behind the ransomware publish the encrypted and stolen information, with the intent of damaging the victim entity.

“Our internal security teams, supplemented by leading cyber defense firms, are actively taking steps to contain this incident.  Cognizant has also engaged with the appropriate law enforcement authorities, said the company. “We are in ongoing communication with our clients and have provided them with Indicators of Compromise (IOCs) and other technical information of a defensive nature.”
