Automation Anywhere Upgrades Enterprise RPA Offering to Meet GDPR Compliance Standards

As more technology companies brace for changing privacy regulation, robotic process automation (RPA) software provider Automation Anywhere has announced that its platform is “compliance-ready” for the soon-to-be-enacted General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

The European Union regulation kicks in on May 25 and includes detailed rules for storing and accessing personal customer data. To prepare, Automation Anywhere has added increased security and breach notifications that aim to help companies stay in compliance even as software robots crawl around their systems to automate processes.

The San Jose, California-based company’s enterprise platform also pledges to ensure that so-called “Personally Identifiable Information,” or PII, under the regulation scheme is only used for “appropriate purposes.” This is met through audit logs and “the ability to log the intended purpose,” said the RPA firm in a statement.

Encryption, credential protocols, role-based access controls for bots, and forensic analysis components have also been included into the system so that it does not run afoul of GDPR.

“The protection of privacy and compliance with GDPR is critically important to our customers around the globe, and there can be unforgiving financial penalties for companies that do not comply completely,” said Abhijit Kakhandiki, senior vice president of products and engineering at Automation Anywhere.
